We are pleased to announce that the Conservancy will be working on a special project with the Orillia Museum (OMAH).

OMAH has received $12,050 from the Province of Ontario for a partnership and legacy project with The Couchiching Conservancy.  This project will celebrate Orillia’s 150th by bringing awareness to ecologically significant land in Orillia. The “Celebrating Orillia and Area’s Environmental Heritage at the Couchiching Conservancy” initiative will offer workshops in art making in nature, the creation of outdoor sculptures and outdoor painting.

PROJECT SCOPE

The project will take place at publicly accessible sites of the Couchiching Conservancy over a period of 6 months. The project will contain three main components that will be open to participation for all community members:

1. Series of six free art workshops
From May to October, art instructors and outdoor educators will welcome people of all ages to various sites to explore nature and create a small take-home art project.

2. Installation of site-specific outdoor sculptures
Professional regional artists will be invited to create temporary, non-invasive sculptures for outdoor installation. The intention will be to raise awareness of the 17% Pledge.

3. Plein-air painting and photography
Regional artists will be encouraged to engage the public in their art practice by inviting them to participate, experience and engage either through a hands-on approach or through dialogue.

The project will culminate in a commemorative catalogue.

What’s Ontario 150?

2017 will be an exciting and festive year where Ontarians have the opportunity to come together and celebrate the incredible province we live in.

During our 150th anniversary, we want to embrace the culture of inclusion, innovation, and opportunity that uniquely defines Ontario.

Over the course of this year, we will recognize and celebrate our province’s qualities and values with a range of events and initiatives across the province.

Through the Ontario150 grant programs and series of key Signature Initiatives, we will engage youth, encourage cultural expression, promote participation in sport and recreation, and create jobs and economic opportunities across the province.
